Wild Flowers Of Mexico

Once we left the coast of Puerto Vallarta, and headed inland to central Jalisco we were surprised to see many beautiful wild flowers growing along the roadside.

In Chapala the side of the road was a flood of orange, it was stunning. This was due to wild orange caprosma, and yellow daisies. On our morning walks with the dogs you coundn’t help but smile as you went walking past this colourful bounty. We also discovered that the horses loved the orange caprosma.

When we headed up through to the Magic Town of Tapalpa the roadside was covered in white and pink flowers. It was breathtaking. I drove Glen crazy by asking to stop a dozen times so I could take photos. As usual the photos do not the flowers justice, they need to be seen in person to be appreciated.

We were lucky with our timing, the flowers bloom after the raining season (end of September/October).

We also saw some of the various cacti in flower. They have a range of different coloured flowers. The flowers then turn into a fruit called tuna. This fruit is used in a variety of ways for medical treatments and also for food. We tried a delicious tuna flavoured ice cream.
