We returned to the volunteer at Las Animas Dog Rescue in Puerto Vallarta for another 3 weeks. This time we were looking after 4 dogs – three puppies of various ages and an older dog. Freckles was the older collie cross dog who loved the beach and swimming, Lechie was a young shepherd cross puppy, and then there were the two pups: Jackson a pit-bull cross; and Boeing a lab cross street dog.

We really bonded with these four critters and throughly enjoyed our time with them. We were living in a studio apartment in downtown Puerto Vallarta for ten days, and then at the River House for the rest of the time. During our time at the apartment we potty trained the puppies and got them use to the various noises of the city – buses, people, music and fireworks.
We also introduced the puppies to the beach, they loved running around and digging in the sand, but weren’t overly keen about the water and waves.

During the Dia los Muertos (The Day of The Dead) it was good to take the puppies out walking the streets and getting use to being around lots of people. Jackson in particular needed this training as he could be a little bit aggressive when strangers came up to him.

While we were close to the beach, we decided to get out and try some fishing and snorkelling along the coast as the wet season had finished.
We stopped at the beach town of Yelapa for lunch, and then headed back to Puerto Vallarta.

Saying goodbye to these rescue dogs is always difficult, they really worm their way into your heart. Our only wish is that they all find loving forever homes. They haven’t had the best start in life, so its good if the rest of their life is a great one – they have so much unconditional love to give.

You guys are so good with animals ( apart from eating them.)
Savie cat awaits you here in NZ.
I just LOVED those orange flowers all together; what a splash- my dream garden. The day of the dead and all that goes with it is fascinating- thanks for suggesting the movie Coco, which explained a lot.xx
