Climbing The Bernal

Mexico has some amazing rock climbing, everything from hard sport routes to 800m multi pitch days out. It also has some good mountains and volcanoes to climb, the third highest in North America being Pico de Orizaba at 5636m. Mexico also has the 3rd largest rock monolith in the world, Pena de Bernal is a 433m chunk of rock that sticks up above the surrounding landscape and tops out at 2510m above sea level. Once Glen found out there was classic multi pitch rock routes to be had nearby he was on the phone to a local guide Tony from exxichallenge.com, and sorted out a trip for the next day. Climbing early at 9am the temperature was perfect, and they topped out about mid day. Glen and Tony were sitting in a local restuarant with Gorditas and a cold beer by 2pm, stoked with a great days adventure. If you are in the area we would highly recommend a visit to this majestic place 1.5 to 2 hrs drive from San Miguel de Allende.

  1. Very impressive Glen- maybe your next calling will be video production. Great to see you climbing, also to see that view. The final shots with the cloud formation was epic. Thanks for making this for us to see xx
