Dream Home Minders in France

We arrived in Paris at Charles De Gaulle airport on the 10 July after a long flight from Singapore. The airport staff were friendly and efficient and we cleared customs very quickly. Glen was impressed with his Customs Officer who greeted him with Kia Ora!

After picking up our rental car we made our way out of airport and tried to take the back roads to Normandy, as advised by the Avis staff. The main route through Paris had heavy traffic. After getting lost at a number at the road abouts and going over the wrong side of the road, we decided to head back to the airport and take the main route on the A1 through Paris. Unfortunately our GPS wasn’t as helpful as we had hoped, which was a bummer, as it would have been a much more scenic route.

After an hour in heavy traffic we finally cleared the outskirts of Paris and made it into fifth gear – we were on our way. The surrounding countryside was flat with mostly  wheat and hay growing.

We stopped off in Dreux to stretch our legs and feed our bellies. Somehow in our very poor French we managed to get a good meal, and not frustrate the poor waitress too much.

Once we hit the Normandy countryside the scenery changed to more lush greenery, charming forests and rolling hills. We had a few photo stops on the way, it really was stunning. We made it to Chateau De Miserai around 4pm to be greeted by Richard and Christina (the bride to be’s parents). They gave us a tour around the Chateau and out buildings. We were pliantly surprised to find out our bedroom would be in the main chateau – score! We then meet Cristian one of the owners of the Chateau. It was time to enjoy a cold gin and tonic – thanks to Richard, and sit down and catch up in the upstairs bar in one of the out buildings. It is hard being on holiday!
